I could not honestly decipher the lesser of the two evils much less bring myself to choose between them.
I realize all the down ballot items are important and "not voting" is not necessarily the best choice yet, as time passes, I become increasingly comfortable with my choice in this instance.
I can't buy into this politics of personality - DT vs. HC - nor can I see only red or only blue. I care about policy and procedure and, more than anything, I mourn the loss of our ability to have genuine discourse.
Several months ago, when the name Bernie Sanders was in all the headlines of my Facebook feed, I bookmarked an article entitled "Socialism In America Is Closer Than You Think." I find the title somewhat misleading but the content fascinates me, making reference to many examples of "solutions" that originate from somewhere other than our national power center (the Tennessee Valley Authority being perhaps the largest and best known example).
I believe this to be the model for the true solutions to the challenges we face today and the ones we'll face tomorrow. Our established systems are calcified and in decline and, unfortunately, we are still operating under a model of how things worked (vs. how they will work).
The ground is shifting and all the existing maps are suspect. As Einstein said: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used to create them."
